Over twenty years old, the 35-acre estate vineyards are now in their prime. Originally planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, and Johannisberg Riesling, the family has since added Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Gewürtztraminer. An old-world philosophy prevails at Madroña with nearly all aspects of vineyard production still done by hand.
The vineyard is nestled in the breathtaking Esmeralda Valley of Calaveras County, in the Sierra Foothills of Northern California. The noteworthy Sierra Foothill region is now experiencing a resurgence of accolades, with the “Gold Rush” coming from medals and awards for handcrafted wines of the highest quality and recognition for grape growing.
Nine Gables Vineyard and Winery is dedicated to making quality wines at reasonable prices commensurate to the wines produced. Nine Gables Vineyard and Winery is committed to making wines in small batch fermentations with a hands-on, handcrafted approach. Better flavors come from fermenting the gapes in small batches and hand-punching them many times a day for maximum extraction of flavors, colors and aromas.
All our wines are marked by richness and balance. Our wines are finished and complete: inviting bouquet, balanced flavors and a smooth, lingering finish. Within this stylistic framework, each wine has its own personality.
“Montevia grapes experience sheer joy from their surroundings and pride in the wine they become. Pride and joy suounds like a song title and a recipe for stellar-ness.” Translated as “Land of Gold”, Montevina’s reserve wines, vinified in limited quantities from the winery’s best lots and featuring single vineyard and old-vine zinfandels have won numerous awards and are continually acknowledged as some of the best in the world.
Our very own Twisted Oak vineyards (that’s all that “Estate” means, don’t look for the mansion) are located at the Winery in Vallecito and on Sheep Ranch Road in Murphys. Our 11 acres of vineyards give us Tempranillo, Grenache, and Graciano grapes which are used to make The Spaniard, Torcido, and Grenache.
Owned by one of several long-time Amador County winemaking families (four generations of Brees), Sutter Ridge produces Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel, and Port. Located on a hogsback ridge just above the town of Sutter Creek, the winery also grows Pinotage — the only commercial planting in California.
Ironstone Vineyards is so much more than a winery.
