For a hundred and thirty one years, three generations of the López de Heredia family have devoted themselves to producing exceptional and unique wines. Masterpieces which have achieved that which the founder of the company, Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta, defined in the late nineteenth century as the “Supreme Rioja”.
Nowadays, the bodega, which changed its name once again in 1996 to Viñedos y Bodegas de la Marquesa, continues to be a family firm and is owned by Juan Pablo de Simón and his brothers, while the next generation, Pablo and Jaime de Simón (Juan Pablo’s sons) are preparing to take over the running of the company in the future.
CVNE grows half of the grapes it needs to produce its wine and buys the rest under contract with Rioja’s best growers. A great terroir for great wines. In Villaba, CVNE has vineyards that are over 40 years old and whose grapes are used to produce the Real de Asúa, produced only when the harvest has been excellent.
The cellar is prepared for tourist and cultural visits and elaborates its wines in a traditional way, for the pleasure of its visitors. The winery is located right in the center of Laguardia, a medieval town set in a landscape dominated by ancient dolmens and vineyards. This town, renowned for a thousand years as a center for wine-growing and wine making as well as for the famed views of the Sierra de Cantabria mountain range.
The new complex houses a hotel, a spa of wine therapy, an exclusive restaurant, a meeting and conference center and a banquet hall. Undoubtedly, the Ciudad del Vino is a 21st century chateau in which the different experiences that wine can offer may be enjoyed; a world full of living sensations.
