The renovation of the Ygay Castle is at the core of the winery in the middle of the Ygay Estate. It was originally built in the 19th century by the founder of the winery, Luciano Francisco Ramon Murrieta, the first Marques de Murrieta, to function as his cellar for the elaboration and aging of his first Rioja wines.
In the best area of the D. O. Ca. Rioja, in a spectacular meander of the river Ebro , we find Finca Valpiedra, one of “The Great Single Estate Vineyards” of Spain. Finca Valpiedra is a new way of understanding Rioja wines. Our wines are modern, with some extraordinary characteristics, developed from a carefully selected fruit in the surrounding vineyards of the cellar.
Don Rafael fell in love with the region, especially the area around Haro, the mythical capital of the Rioja Alta region. He observed that there was a magical combination of soil and climate that would offer the perfect environment for producing wine that would eventually become world famous. Around 1877 he began the design and construction of the complex that is today known as the López de Heredia bodega (winery), the oldest in Haro and one of the first three bodegas in the Rioja region.
The April issue of the American magazine Wine & Spirits publishes a survey carried out among the best restaurants in the USA that places Muga first on the list of the most recognized wines by the American wine drinkers. Viña Lanciano is located in a breathtaking meander of the River Ebro. The vineyard occupies an area of 72 hectares, in which the climate, river and soil endow already exceptional grapes with a unique personality. Within the dusky darkness of the bodega, only wine from the best vintages can sit in vats and barrels made from French and American oak, acquiring the nuances from the wood, and heightening the primary characteristics of the wine itself. On reaching maturity, they are then bottled and remain in sleepers until perfection and rounding-off.
The origin of the Remelluri Farm has been lost in the mists of time. A necropolis at the centre of the estate points to the existence of a village as far back as the 10th century. It tells us of count “Erramel” from Álava , the founder of “Erramelluri”, a historic toponym dating from the Late Middle Ages.
