The agritourism remains open throughout the year and the owner invites interested guests to participate in the harvesting of grapes and olives. The winery produces award winning Chinati Classico, Toscana Do ut Des and Toascana Dofana. The Chinati is 100% Sangiovese 100% grapes with an intense red color with perfumes of cherry and currant. Perfect for every day. The Montaperto is a blend of Sangiovese, Alicante and Gamay grapes and is known to be perfect when served with lasagnas, roast of pig or even pheasant. The Do Ut Des wine is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The last of their wines is named Dofana and is a blend of Sangiovese and Petit Verdot. These Super Tuscan style wines have won awards from all over the world and were recently written up in the Oct. 31, 2008 issue of Wine Spectator.
Wine tastings are held on the premises in recently restored rooms which used to accommodate a small monastery of monks in the 16th century. Although the wines are spectactular, it is even more impressive when timing your visit during the summer months to experience the “Music and Tuscan Reds” festival sponsored by owner Roberto Guerrini Fuligni and friends. This concert series was launched when a group of musicians and winemakers, with a fervent passion for music, began sponsoring these concerts during the concert breaks of the 1999 Salzburg Festival. The first musical encounters, by invitation only, were planned and subsequently took place in the territory of Siena in August 2000 to coincide with the Palio of Siena. Overlooking the vineyards is the estate’s showpiece, a medieval fortress now known as Castello Banfi. Meticulously restored as a hospitality center, it boasts a glass museum, enoteca, and two restaurants: the informal “Taverna Banfi,” serving traditional dishes of the region, and “Ristorante Castello Banfi,” serving Mediterranean-inspired Tuscan cuisine in a fine dining ambiance. Within a year of opening, the restaurant was recognized for its excellence with a prestigious Michelin Star. The latest jewel in the crown of estate hospitality is “Castello Banfi – Il Borgo,” 14 luxury guest rooms nestled in the hamlet that grew alongside the castle walls in the 17th and 18th century.

The Tenuta di Arceno estate lies in the hills of the Chianti region in central Tuscany between Florence and Siena, near Castelnuovo Berardenga. Tuscany is home to Italy’s most renowned wines. Among them are the Super Tuscans, referred to as such due to their superior quality and position outside of official premium wine designations. The Tenuta di Arceno estate produces a variety of Super Tuscans including Arcanum I and Arcanum II.
Harvesting, done entirely by hand, is done so as to choose the grape bunches which are best suited for each kind of wine. Brunello di Montalcino comes from this selection, followed by ageing for four years in Slavonian oak casks. These become five years for the Brunello chosen to become Riserva (Reserve). Due to its long aging and the care and attention afforded to its production, Brunello di Montalcino is now considered to be one of the most precious and exclusive wines, to be matched with game, roast meat and seasoned cheese, but it is also an excellent wine all on its own.
Brunello is a wine born from time and from the care it receives while it ages. Its aging process is a rite and the cellar at the Barbi Farm is the temple in which this rite has been taking place for more than a century. Here lie bottles which date back as far as 1892 together with the barrels which will give us next year’s Brunello. Here all guests are welcome and greeted by our young and passionate guides of the Farm: daily wine cellar tours are organized for singles or groups.
