Juval, situated between the sunny Valley Venosta and the throat of the Valley Senales, under the glaciers of the Alps Ötztaler, in the town of Castelbello. A visit to Castel Juval is always a very exciting experience. The castle includes, the tavern “Schlosswirt”, a farmstead with animals found throughout the local mountains and a wine shop. The wine shop specializes in the excellent white wines from local vineyards on the surrounding slopes that are typical of the Venosta Valley. The museum, inn and winery are Juval’s attempt to unite the local culture with the exotic, including the local agriculture and tourism options from the region.

We begin our tour with a short walk through the vineyards. During it you will learn all you want to know about the work in the vineyard and the history of Rametz Castle. Then we pay a visit to the wine-growing museum. In its four rooms we can see all kinds of old implements, which were indispensable for the hard work in the vineyards in earlier times. It follows that we then go down into the cellars to find out more about the work there. The 18th century cellar is certainly one of the most beautiful of its kind in the whole of the Burggrafenamt. To round off the tour we sample five of our very best house wines and give you a taste of our delicious “Kaiserspeck” (raw smoked bacon), a typical South Tyrolean product.

The varieties planted are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. These grapes go into San Leonardo in the respective proportions of 60%, 30% and 10%. We are particularly satisfied with the results we have achieved from Cabernet Franc, which on the Tenuta San Leonardo terroir ripens to perfection and acquires a markedly less green, rustic personality than usual. It is Cabernet Franc that gives our wine such longevity and elegance. This Estate’s outstanding Bordeaux blend has received ‘Tre Bicchiere’ from Gambero Rosso in ten out of of the last twelve vintages and was also numbered among the Guide’s ‘Fifty Wines which changed Italy’. It is also one of the highest acclaimed wineries in all of Alto Adige.

The history of Masi is the history of its vineyards around Verona, in the Venetian region. The name derives from “Vaio dei Masi”, the little valley acquired in the late 18th century by the Boscaini family, which retains ownership to this day. The company has grown step by step through successive, and very careful, purchases in the best viticultural areas of the Venetian region. Masi is also involved in the management of the most historic estate in Valpolicella, which has belonged to the noble Serego Alighieri family, descendants of the poet Dante, since 1353.

The wines of the Tramin Winery are the result of a deep knowledge of the wine-growing region and its climate. Indeed, the continental climate of the region, with its remarkable temperature differences between seasons (hot, dry summers followed by harsh and often snowy winters) and even between day and night, plays its part in making the taste of Tramin wines unique to the palate. The oenologist pays scrupulous attention to all of this and to other factors in looking for new blends and nuances of taste. The list of prizes and recognitions awarded includes ‘Italian winemaker of the year’ awarded in 2004 by the prestigious “Gambero Rosso and Slow Food Wines of Italy” guide to Willi Stürz, the Winery’s winemaker.
