Nestled among poplar-lined country fields and rolling hills lies one of the most special places to stay in Chile, the Hacienda Los Lingues, one of the oldest and best-preserved haciendas in Chile.

To go deep into Hacienda Los Lingues is like being taken back in time. It is not only a typical big house of the Chilean countryside, but it is a living testimony of the colonial times. Everything remains as in those days…buildings are made of mud and straw, walls are painted in colonial red and when remodelling or restoration is needed, it is done with historians to preserve the original architecture.

Los Lingues also has a breeding stable of superior registered “Aculeo” horses, which is considered one of the best stables in America. It was founded in 1760 and its origins date back to Berber and Numidian horses in the north of Africa, which were brought to Spain by the Moors and finally brought to “the new world” by the Spanish conquistadors.

The floor of the stables is completely covered with handmade pink stones. Just a few steps away, in the traditional rodeo-ring it is possible to watch Huasos (Chilean cowboys) use harnesses and demonstrate their skills with young bulls and stallions.

At the end of the Sixteenth century, Don Melchor Jufré del Águila, settled in Santiago valley; he was an Extremaduran nobleman, son of a knight of the military order of Santiago who held the rank of major in 1599. As a successful writer and chronicler he won prestige in the Santiago’s society and was awarded by the King of Spain with the Estate of Angostura (Estancia de la Angostura) located in the central valley. Since then, Los Lingues has continuously belonged to the descendants and has managed to stay in the same family for more than four centuries.

Present owner of Los Lingues, Mr. Germán Claro Lira, has restored the estate, both its exterior and interior architecture and decor and presents them in the period of their primitive construction. Architects and historians have advised him on this task who have guided Claro`s purpose to respect those features that rural houses of the central valley had during the Hispanic colonial period and, at the same time, to be faithful to changes that they experienced as a result of Independence.

The basement, with thick walls made out of “cal y canto” (characteristic building material of that period, made mostly out of lime and egg white), is transformed in huge winter dining rooms that can hold hundreds of guests. In this place it is possible to taste some of the 150 varieties of Chilean wines that are stored in our wine cellars.

Since gastronomy is one of the main demands in any good hotel, in Hacienda Los Lingues we offer you the best of international, regional and Chilean cuisine.  We emphasize produce from our own organic orchard, where you may pick the vegetables that you like the most and to confirm the freshnes of each one of them. The eggs and honey are also produced here, while fresh cheese from local producers in Los Lingues and bread made daily in the house with our own recipes add to the meals.

The four centuries of history of Hacienda Los Lingues are not in vain, since it is not only Chile’s oldest family business, but also the 20th oldest family business in the world and also an interesting story linked to wine producing. Thus, in a strategic alliance with Viña Los Vascos (Domaines Barons de Rothschild-Lafite) Hacienda Los Lingues launched a  fine selection of Cabernet Sauvignon, Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Rose wines, all of them with their origin’s denomination. White stock wines are from the valley of Casablanca, while the ones of red stocks are from the valley of Rapel (Colchagua).

There are also interesting tours through the Wine Routes, Rapel Wine Route (Colchagua and Cachapoal valleys) and  Curicó Valley; tour through El Teniente and Sewell mines. You may also enjoy sport activities, such as Golf and Catch & Release fishing (fly fishing).  Inside the Hacienda, your may take the cultural tour, see horse exhibitions, enjoy horse rides, tennis, mountain bike rides or swimming pool.
