Luxury Accommodation in Private Game Reserve on Paarl Wine Farm
Our cottage dates from the early 1800′s and was recently fully restored and upgraded. It is located in our private game reserve at Oude Denneboom, which is a working farm in the Voor-Paardeberg wine ward near Paarl, where we grow wine grapes, olives, citrus and wheat. We are proud of what we can offer and you will experience a very special tranquil atmosphere in beautiful surroundings. At night you will be able to see the stars without any light pollution and it will be wonderfully quiet, except for the sounds of nature.
The cottage is in the veld and therefore very private, and is surrounded by large trees. We’ve recently restored the original farm cottage which was built in the early 1800′s. The pair of barn owls that lived in the old cottage are now happily breeding in their new nesting box right outside the main bedroom.
We offer four star amenities with the charm of reed ceilings, wooden shutters and an authentic olde world atmosphere. You have your own private pool where you can bask in the sun or go for a late night swim during our hot summer nights.
Our cottage is self-catering and you only have to bring your own food and drink. We provide bedding, towels, crockery, utensils, firewood and even firelighters. The main bedroom has a double bed and a modern bathroom with bath and shower for two to make your stay truly romantic. The second bedroom has two single beds and its own shower and other amenities. There’s a fully equipped open plan kitchen with granite work surfaces, lounge area and a large traditional fireplace and braai facilities. The cottage is serviced every day except for Sundays.
The cottage is in the middle of our game reserve and therefore very private and tranquil. You can virtually sit on the stoep or in the pool and watch game and other wildlife, it’s a bird watcher’s paradise (especially waterfowl), bring your tackle and do fresh water fishing, hike on the reserve and farm, bring your mountain bikes, take unique photos, gaze at the stars with your loved ones, explore various wine routes or join our employees in their daily tasks.
In 2001 approximately a third of the farm (60 ha) was set aside as a game reserve for the enjoyment of the people living on the farm (and as a stress reliever for the owner!) Today this is a place of tranquility where you can unwind while watching Springbok playing or Bontebok chasing a Cape Fox over the veld. The reserve includes a large storage dam stocked with fish and it is a haven for a large variety of water fowl and other birds. Apart from small animals like Meerkat, Cape Fox, Porcupine, Cape Grysbok and Steenbok there are also Eland, Wildebeest, Springbok, Zebra and a registered herd of the scarce Bontebok.
Vineyards & Wines
In 1996 the first new clone vines were planted after extensive research by top viticulturists and soil experts confirmed that the terroir of Oude Denneboom, as well as the culture of attention to detail and dedication, was ideally suited for the production of wine grapes for exceptional wines. Over the years Shiraz, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvedre were added with great success. As the climate lent itself to the production of some top quality white wines as well, Viognier and Nouvelle were added in recent years.
