Nelson Wine Estate is a family wine farm in every sense of the word where most of the members of the Nelson family are involved in the running of the business in one way or another. The farm has a beautiful setting with lots of old world charm. It is located on two hills at the foot of the Paarl Mountain.

The views of the surrounding mountains are splendid. Owner, Alan Nelson, knew that he had found the right area when he learnt that Gunter Bröessel, surely South Africa’s most well known winemaker, had purchased a small farm in the Agter Paarl region in very close proximity to Nelson Creek. Although wine making facilities are state of the art, much attention has been paid to maintaining the old world charm and ambiance of the Estate.

Since acquiring the farm, grapes produced in the mini region in which Nelsons’ Creek is located have achieved truly outstanding achievements, indicated most recently by Nelson’s Creek’s 2009 Chenin Blanc winning the Consumer’s Choice Category at the Paarl Chenin/Shiraz Challenge.

Our wine tours are presented by Lisha Nelson (the winemaker), Olivia Poonah (assistant winemaker) and Jack Kukard (general manager). The tours offer a fun and entertaining way for guests to learn more about the inner workings of a wine farm and to become more familiar with the various processes involved in the production of wine.

After visiting the vineyard, the visitors are taken on a tour of the wine cellar where every facet of the winemaking process is discussed. The tour then culminates in a wine tasting where the finest wines that the Estate has to offer can be tasted in the rustic elegance of the “Old Cellar” or in the Lapa. During the tasting, visitors will be shown the various ways in which wine is to be evaluated and will no doubt leave the Estate feeling like true wine buffs.

We are proud to announce that guests will now, in addition to great wine and great times, also be able to enjoy great accommodation at the Nelson Wine Estate.

Twelve lovely rooms have been erected in a style reminiscent of old horse stables. Enjoy lavish sunsets and walks through the vineyards at daybreak, go for a morning swim in our crystal clear pool overlooking the Chardonnay vineyard or simply enjoy a cup of rich coffee on the patio while taking in the sights and sounds of the Cape Winelands the way it was meant to be experienced.
