For 315 years Rust en Vrede has stood peacefully among the vineyards of Stellenbosch. Through centuries there were periods when wine was produced, but for the last 32 years our family have specialized in producing only red wine with the focus on Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot.
Many accolades have been bestowed upon the estate and some of the more memorable were when Rust en Vrede was chosen by President Nelson Mandela to be served at the Nobel Peace Prize dinner, hosting the King and Queen of Denmark for a lunch at the Manor House, and when Rust en Vrede was nominated as the first South African red wine in the Top 100 Wines of the World. This honour was repeated for four consecutive years.
Our food, “a contemporary take on the classics”, is a combination of fresshness, flavour and flair. The freshness of ingredients is key and we are therefore planting our own herb and vegetable garden. Our meat is sourced from our property in the Kalahari Desert and is matured to our specifications. This means that we control the quality of product we serve. The menus are separated into 2 sections. One being a set 6 course menu with wines and the other an a la carte 4 course menu. We believe we have the right ingredients to offer an amazing experience.
Being part of this progressive wine estate and working closely with our winemakers we have selected a unique wine list. Not only does it comprise of wines that we personally selected, but also includes wines from the CWG (Cape Winemakers Guild). As part of the guild it is an exciting prospect to be able to approach these winemakers and letting them recommend varietals and vintages.
