This beautiful farm on the east-facing slopes of the magnificent Constantiaberg and barely 12km from False Bay, originally formed part of the Constantia Estate, which was founded by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the new Dutch colony at the tip of Africa. It flourished as a wine farm, due mainly to the 90,000 vines planted in 1825 by Ryk Arnoldus Cloete, brother of the famous Hendrik Cloete of Constantia.

Imbued with a sense of history, the Mueller family has retraced the roots of Buitenverwachting. The farm was lovingly restored to its former glory while extensive planting of the most selected of cultivars was initiated. The result was a maiden grape harvest of 100 tonnes – the first harvest the farm had seen in 30 years. An historic achievement that lived up to its name: Buitenverwachting – “Beyond Expectation”.

Elegantly timeless, Buitenverwachting Restaurant is fortuitously positioned overlooking the Vineyards and the Constantiaberg Mountains. It has held the position as one of Cape Towns finest for many years. The award-winning Restaurant and Courtyard have been recently refurbished, where old and new come together – with views hard to beat. International influences, experiences and values are expressed in the new professional team – to live up to the name.

Cuisine:
A la carte and set menus are daily available for lunch and dinner that portray his sense of artistry, perfect for pampered palates. The menus change often and offer sophisticated fare, using only the finest produce sourced locally and internationally.

So sit back and savor Edgar’s ambrosial dishes. And to compliment the exquisite cuisine, an extensive wine list comprising the very best of the Farm’s Finest Wines, the best from the Constantia Region and the rest of the Cape, as well as selected International Wines, are available.

Picnics:
The historic Cape Dutch farmstead and winery at Buitenverwachting frame the beautiful gardens studded with ancient trees where guests can indulge in a pre-booked summer picnic. Picnics are served in baskets under the oak trees. Tables and chairs are provided. Open from beginning of November to the end of April from Monday to Saturday from 12h00 – 16h00.
