Viña Mayor. Ribera del Duero’s ambassador!

In the road that goes from Aranda de Duero to Valladolid, in the middle of the vineyard route, Viña Mayor appears over a hill which looks the Duero’s water meadow, without changing the natural shape of the northern face of the mountainside.

The project of Bodegas Viña Mayor began in 1986 with the purchase of land in Quintanilla de Onésimo belonging to the D.O. (the official Spanish wines classification) Ribera del Duero, where both the wine experience and wisdom of a centenarian company, Hijos de Antonio Barceló, is shown. The unquestionable success of Viña Mayor from its beginnings is due to the excellent growing conditions as well as the initial ambitious objectives of the project.

The winery is surrounded by 9 hectares of vineyard (Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon) which make the privileged enclave more beautiful. The provision of the best quality fruit is assured because of long term contracts with vine-growers of this region, which allow to monitor the vineyard care, the ripening of the fruit and the optimum date to its harvest.

The selection process becomes more meticulous when referring to Reservas and Grandes Reservas: vineyard of more than 40 years with low yields, harvest by hand of mellow grape, harvest in picker baskets, transport of the fruit to the winery the same day, new and careful revision of buches in selection tables.

Only the best fruit can produce Great Wines.Since the beginning the Viña Mayor project has been widely known for offering the most modern and better equipped facilities of the region.

The natural beauty of the area, the innumerable historical-artistic objectives enclosed in the region and the promise, always fulfilled, of good food and better wines, attract tourism more and more.
