Perhaps Portugal’s most renowned chef, Rui Paula, opend his latest restaurant in the Douro Valley named D.O.C. Having also recently published his first gourmet cookbook, ‘Uma Cozinha No Douro’ (available in English), he continues to impress both locals and tourists alike with his award winning food and wine lists. Opened in 2007, D.O.C. is housed in a modern “minimalist-style” building that sits on stilts, jutting out over the edge of the Douro River, with ceiling to floor glass walls to maximize the views of the terraced vineyards that grace both sides of the Duoro.
Specialties are too many to name, but fortunately Chef Paula offers several tasting menus as well as ala carte. The wine list is a true reflection on the best that the region has to offer.
