We have lovingly and meticulously restored all of the annexes of the main building in traditional Tuscan style so that our guests can enjoy a relaxing and peaceful holiday. Peonia, Girasole, Edera and Tulipano have been warmly furnished by Lydia so that you can be assured of a pleasant stay here with us. Recently restored, the apartments can accommodate 4 adults with the possibility of adding two cots. The entrance opens into a living/bedroom which leads into a pretty kitchen. A small hallway leads to the bathroom and the other bedroom. Tastefully furnished, it allows serene views of the main courtyard.
The restaurant: Tuscan cuisine
The characteristic dining area is the ideal setting to savour our homemade cuisine. All our produce is exclusively biologically grown; from the oil and wine, honey and truffles, to home-grown vegetables and cured meats. All meals are prepared according to local custom, employing traditional use of herbs and a wood-burning oven and are served family-style. In the summer months we encourage you to enjoy our rich breakfast or romantic dinner in the garden
“La Pievuccia” farm and eco-tourism center is located between the hills of Castiglion Fiorentino and Cortona, in the heart of the Val di Chiana. Wine and olive oil production in the area have been a constant part of life here for thousands of years, and is now represented by the D.O.C. Valdichiana (Denomination of Controlled Origin) mark of quality. Our estate, which covers 20 acres, is divided among vineyards, olive groves, seasonal crops and forest. Since 1995 all our agricultural products are strictly organic and are certified as such by the association “Suolo e Salute”.
WINES
We grow our wine grapes in the area around the historic town of Castiglion Fiorentino. Between the end of August and the beginning of October we harvest the fruit and after a careful selection we place it on small crates and carry it to our wine cellar. The wine making process of our Chardonnay, Balzanella, Red and White wines follows ancient Tuscan tradition, though it is aided by technology and modern process and quality control. The wine then matures in barrels and eventually it is bottled and “rested” for 2-3 months before being put on the market.
EXTRA-VERGINE OLIVE OIL
“La Pievuccia” owns 4.5 acres of specialized olive groves. The 1400 trees of the Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo olive varieties are well over 100 years old. Their particular plantation which is situated 350 meters above sea level and is surrounded by a pine forest allows for a completely natural growing process giving the oil a high quality while at the same respecting the environment and our health. The olives are picked during the first weeks of November and are crushed in a continuous cycle. They yield a green, bright and spicy oil with an intense and fruity burst of flavor and a bold aroma. Over time it settles down into a harmonized and less spicy, mature oil. It is classified as Extra-Virgin because of its very low acidity.
