Since the 16th century (when it was a private home), the hotel has received the greatest of the great. Legend has it that Louis XIV preferred to stay here instead of at the hospices.  Much closer to the present day, in 1966 an antiques collector richly furnished the hotel for guests who appreciated fine things. The Bernard family took over the destiny of the establishment in 1986.

Nerino Bernard and son Jean-Claude, wanted to preserve the hotel’s exceptional heritage, but they were also anxious to make their guests comfortable. So they have transformed, enlarged and adapted this place so full of history.  Take the glass elevator or the little staircase in the tower to discover and exceptional panoramic view of this rich and colorful city.

A recent Frommer’s review states, “The chic spot for oenophiles is this former residential mansion in the town center, fit for the ducs de Bourgogne. Each antiques-filled guest room is individually decorated and named after a Grand Cru wine of the Côte-d’Or vineyards; our favorites are the Chambre Montrachet and the Chambre Meloisey. On the grounds are two of the loveliest arcaded courtyards in Beaune, one from the 16th century, another from the 14th century. A tower housing one of the city’s most beautiful stone staircases rises from here. A former wine cellar is the breakfast room. One of Beaune’s finest restaurants is inside the hotel.”

You can enjoy the hotel’s calm atmosphere next to the fireplace or in the interior courtyard dating back to 1547.  The three salons on the ground floor and the bar are good places to relax and spend enjoyable moments throughout the day. The hotel, which is a registered historical monument, has many architectural surprises in store. Whether you wander into the courtyards or the garden, you will find Griffins, Jesters, renaissance sculptures and other symbols wherever you go.

The 16 suites will allow you to discover what the Burgundy joie de vivre really is. From the coiffured ceilings to the massive wardrobes, wood is omnipresent. The luxurious bathrooms with their showers and baths, the dressing rooms and salons were designed for your comfort. For the wine lovers, the restaurant Loiseau des Vignes in the lobby offers 70 wines by the glass to go along with true gourmet cuisine featuring the best of Burgundy.
