The Domaine Jean Sipp is situated in the heart of Ribeauvillé, in the high town, in a former seigniorial residence dating from 1416. Jean-Jacques Sipp, a wine-grower since 1973, studied at the AVIZE school in Champagne. He has built his reputation on practises that respect the grape, close to organic methods, that are the basis of the quality of his wines.

The Domaine Jean Sipp is spread over 50 plots of land on the territory encompassing 5 different villages and covering a total surface area of 23 hectares with the appellations “Alsace” and “Alsace Grand Cru”. It includes 2.5 ha of Grand Cru Kirchberg and Osterberg, 2.5 ha of Cru Trottacker and 1.5 ha of Clos Ribeaupierre. The Domaine produces twenty different cuvées from the seven Alsatian grape varieties. These cuvées benefit from homogeneous soils, mostly argilo-calcareous in nature.

Jean-Jacques Sipp is now sure of his succession: his son Jean-Guillaume arrived on the estate at the age of 22. After his training at the agricultural high school in Rouffach, he gained work experience with numerous wine-growers including the Domaine ZIND-HUMBRECHT, in Alsace, the Domaine Olivier LEFLAIVE in Burgundy, the Domaine Marcel GUIGAL in Ampuis in the Rhône and the Domaine MONT-REDON in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and has had contacts with other vineyards in the New World, including CHILE, ARGENTINA and SOUTH AFRICA.

The family of three, Martine, Jean-Jacques and their son Jean-Guillaume have put all their efforts into making the estate’s wines known beyond our borders. They also offer two rooms for rent;  The Clos Ribeaupierre Room and the Kirchberg Room.

The Clos Ribeaupierre room is amply proportioned. It is on the first floor of one of the buildings on the estate and overlooks the courtyard. With a surface area of 42 sq.m., it has two 1-metre single beds, a very comfortable lounge with TV, a private bathroom and toilet. It also has its own entrance and a garage is reserved for you on the ground floor. The Kirchberg room is pleasantly sized. It is situated on the 1st floor of one of the buildings on the estate overlooking its courtyard. With a surface area of 27 sq.m. it has a large1.80 m double bed, a small lounge with TV, a private bathroom and toilet. A garage is reserved for you on the ground floor.

Medievale Ribeauvillé
As early as 1390, fiddlers were coming to Ribeauvillé every year to thank the local lord for his aid and kindness. Since these ancient times, almost nothing has changed. The town still has its old houses, its castles and its annual fiddlers’ visit. The musicians still come on the first Sunday in September (“Pfifferdaj”) in a historical procession. Without a doubt, this is the most colourful and exciting of the festivals in Alsace and it finishes around the fountain in the Town Hall square.  And then, it is no longer water that runs in the fountain, but wine that everyone comes to share in with the glass distributed at the town gates.
