Hôtel de la Cité stands in Carcassonne’s UNESCO-World Heritage Listed medieval citadel, between two historic landmarks, the Romanesque Château Comtal and the Gothic Basilica of Saint-Nazaire. Set in its own glorious gardens, with its solid stone walls and superb stained-glass windows, Hôtel de la Cité offers luxury and hospitality with a medieval touch.
As befits a hotel of such unique character, each of the 40 guestrooms and 21 Suites and Junior Suites at Hôtel de la Cité are individually furnished and decorated with more than a dash of aristocratic style.
Traditional style is of course matched by modern comfort, and all rooms feature the most up-to-date facilities, including air conditioning, sound-proofing, direct-dial telephone and television.
The rooms at Hotel de la Cité are not all identical, varying in shape, layout and interiors. Several of our rooms and suites have balconies and terraces allowing spectacular views of Carcassonne and the ramparts of the medieval Citadel, as well as the Castle. Other rooms offer views of the narrow cobble-stoned streets of the Citadel.
The Hôtel de la Cité’s gastronomic reputation rests on the Michelin Star La Barbacane Restaurant. Located in the heart of the hotel, its neo-Gothic room features magnificent fireplaces, high ceilings and cathedral chairs.
Regularly recommended by the most important gourmet guides, La Barbacane Restaurant offers a menu combining the freshest local ingredients with innovative recipes and fine attention to detail.
Throughout the hotel, the emphasis is on warmth and elegance and our guests will be delighted by the very pleasant traditional atmosphere – whether relaxing and enjoying a meal in the informal Chez Saskia Brasserie, dining al fresco in the outdoor summer restaurant, Le Jardin de l’Evêque, or enjoying a cocktail in our Library Bar with live piano entertainment.
WINE CELLAR
To celebrate the Millennium, the Hôtel de la Cité completed an extensive restoration of its historic wine cellar, built in the underlying bedrock. Brought back to its original turn-of-the-century splendour, the cellar, with its arched brick ceilings, terracotta floors and bottle-lined oak panelling now provides an ideal decor for private wine-tastings or medieval candlelit dinners for up to ten guests.
