The Hotel Rural Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, the first wine hotel in Portugal, appeared in 2005 after the reconstruction of the old manor house (18th century) in complete harmony with the landscape. Our guests can get a real understanding of the spirit of the Douro Valley by observing winemaking and farming activities, following the walkers’ trails and discovering the historic sites on the estate. The re-acquaintance with tradition allows guests to select one of the 11 rooms overlooking the vineyards and the river, decorated in the style of the period and guarantee of every possible comfort.

The Hotel was created following the reconstruction of the old manor house on this 120 hectare property. Here, in harmony with nature and tradition, visitors can enjoy the many wine and agricultural activities and experience the peace of the Douro Valley. From the wine shop and the wine bar, the orchards and the walking tracks, the oil museum or the underground cellar and the magnificent swimming pool above the vineyards, they are all ideal places to experience the workings of the vineyard, to drink a good wine or to taste the best from the region.

The lodging at the Rural Hotel Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is made in regimen of Bed & Breakfast, i.e., always includes traditional buffet breakfast. Our Restaurant presents a summary with the best of the traditional gastronomy of the region.

Available under previous reservation, guests can have some menus (see the link events/menus) created from old receipts and confectioned with local products as the “Arroz de Pato à antiga”, the “Bacalhau assado com batata a murro” or the “Cabrito assado no forno” and typical desserts as the “aletria”, the “leite crème”, the “filhoses” or our “queques para marido guloso”. Our restaurant deals rigorously with the wine service, using the Douro and Port wines produced in the estate.

Breakfast, served in buffet and full of jams and housemaid cakes, allow you to feel at home, starting the day with enough energy to hug the pure air of the estate. When it’s possible we pick the flavorful fruit of our trees, composing a nutritional and healthful meal.

The Wine Bar, with its thematic library, offers wine tastings and the best gourmet specialties, in a calm and cozy ambience, between 10:30 a.m. and mid-night. Any of the meals, climate allowing, can be made in outside spaces of the Hotel.

The Wine Shop offers the portfolio of the estate’s products, increased of some gourmet products of the region, handcraft and traditional gifts. There is always time to visit the shop, in order to know the new features and buy some wines to fill your cellar. You can use the space for a wine tasting or leave from there for a winetour or a regional lunch in our restaurant. Schedule: every day, from 11a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3p.m. to 5:30p.m.
