Piazza Risorgimento is the official name for this historic location, but for the people of Alba, it is known as Piazza del Duomo or Piazza del Municipio, but more importantly, it is known as the heart of the city and thus the heart of the Langhe. It is in this heart that the Ceretto family, together with the Chef Enrico Crippa, have decided to open their ambitious new venture, the restaurant Piazza Duomo.

The idea behind the project was to open a prototype restaurant in which two different themes operate within the same space. La Piola, located on the first floor, will focus on traditional food and wine from the Langhe and Roero while upstairs, Piazza Duomo will be more international and allow Executive Chef Enrico Crippa to express his talent.

In the kitchen, Crippa is rigorous perfectionist, who has discovered the key to expressing his vivid imagination. His is a cuisine based in practicality, infused with culture and intuition, and executed with technical competence and a rare analytical capacity. All of the dishes are personalized. They are never too heavy, with the focus being harmony based on the finest ingredients and presented in the most elaborate yet precise manner. If one were to ask Enrico Crippa what his objectives were, he would simply respond: “the happiness of my guests is what gives me the greatest pleasure”.

The Langhe and Roero hills are one of the most respected and renowned areas in Italy for the production of quality food and wine, and within the local culture of Piemontese it is considered to be an art form. White truffles, mushrooms, hazel nuts, Barolo and Barbaresco, amongst others, made or grown in this area are some of the most appreciated amongst people that love excellent food and wine. The unique characteristics of the raw materials and the ability to transform them within traditional recipes made us think of a place where people could enjoy the tastes of traditional Piemontese cuisine made with simple but refined ingredients from around the area. La Piola is a word in the Piemontese dialect which means restaurant, a comfortable and relaxing place where our grandparents can meet to eat a dish of local pasta, speak with friends and play cards.

Piazza Duomo is owned by the Ceretto winemaking family of Barolo and Barbaresco fame, which accounts for the deep cellar.
