In 1790 the Colombini family bought the Barbi Farm. This was the beginning of a success story in wine growing. Excellent wines which in 1892 achieved a very important goal: a silver medal from the Ministry of Agriculture. It would be the first of a long series of acknowledgements from both Italy and the rest of the world. In 2007 the Barbi wines reached the highest international lists, with Brunello Riserva and Brunello Vigna del Fiore. Today the company is run by Stefano Cinelli Colombini, descendant of the lineage, keeper of an ancient tradition and also promoter of great technological innovations.

In the middle of the most beautiful region of Italy, Tuscany, you find Montalcino, about 40km from Siena, 150km from Florence and 60 km from Grosseto. Once in Montalcino, follow the directions for Sant’Antimo.  After 4km more or less, just following the road, with a few curves, on the left you will see a dirt road with a sign that will point you to the farm:  after about 400mt or so you will find a large parking lot on your right.  You’ve arrived. The closest airports in order of distance are Florence, Pisa and Rome.  The closest train stations are Buonconvento, Siena and Chiusi:  from the first two localities you will find buses for Montalcino.

Brunello is a wine born from time and from the care it receives while it ages.  Its aging process is a rite and the cellar at the Barbi Farm is the temple in which this rite has been taking place for more than a century.  Here lie bottles which date back as far as 1892 together with the barrels, which will give us next year’s Brunello.  Here all guests are welcome and greeted by our young and passionate guides of the Farm:  daily wine cellar tours are organized for singles or groups.

Young and passionate keepers of traditions from the Barbi Farm and Montalcino are ready to accompany guests in the labyrinth of our aging cellar, which is an integral part of the history of Brunello.  Centennial bottles, curiosities and the magnificent barrels in which the wine “atto a diventare Brunello – to be Brunello” gets ready to make many palates all over the world very happy.  Tours are provided in English, French and German. Visits at the scheduled times mentioned herein, are free and do not require reservations.

Groups of 8 or more pay a small fee.  Groups conclude their visit with a wine tasting:  it is also possible to taste farm cheeses and cold cuts.  The group tour lasts about an hour.  Monday to Friday tours start at 10.30/11.30/15.30/16.30.  The tour and the tasting at the mentioned scheduled times are only upon reservation and payment.  In special cases, they can be booked on Saturday mornings and public holidays.
