Welcome to Vigne del Sole – A Sicilian wine making company located in Marsala, the most western point of Sicily.  The Sicilian history of grape cultivation and wine making goes back more than a thousand years. This region combines the tremendous depth, balance and complexity of the land into equally balanced and complex wines. During Roman times, a decorative drinking cup made out of pottery called a “Kylix” was used primarily for drinking wine on special occasions. By naming some of their wines after Klyix, the link to the ancient world continues.  As such, the Vigne Del Sole metaphor of “Every time you open a bottle of KYLIX, you are uncorking the history of the Mediterranean” could not be more applicable.

Vigne Del Sole produces the following wines, some not well known outside of Sicily, but none the less a treat worth the visit to the winery. These include their Kylix red and white wines, Kylix Frappato, Kylix Grillo, Kylix Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot blend, Digarcia Cabernet Sauvignon, Digarcia Nero d´Avola, Digarcia Inzolia, Digarcia Moscato and the newly produced Primo Alfiere.

The cornerstone of the winery is the astonishing level of dedication to their production techniques. Two expert and talented winemakers lead a staff that strives hard to carry on with the inherited wine making tradition of previous Sicilian generations while taking advantage of modern methods of production to produce outstanding wines. Each stage of production is followed with care and exactness. Specifically, the controlled temperature of fermentation; the aging in thermo-controlled tanks and French barriques and the sterile bottling process. These wines are full flavoured and can be enjoyed while relatively young or held for many years to be savored in the future.

The entire wine making process is different for each wine, where some may take from a few months and others several years. Since all grapes have the same colourless juice, it is up to the skins to determine the color of the wine. At Vigne Del Sole, the winemakers leave the juice in contact with the skins for a considerable time to extract the depth of color. Therefore there are fundamental differences between making red wine and white wine: Red wine is made by crushing the grapes and then fermenting the juice, the pulp, the skins and the seeds together for several days. Near the end of sugar fermentation, a wine press is used to separate the liquid from the solid materials. White wine is made by a different process whereby the grapes are immediately crushed and pressed to separate the juice from the solids. After pressing, the skins, stems and seeds are discarded, and the juice is cooled to a low temperature. Then the cold juice is allowed to settle for several hours, and the clear juice is decanted off before it is fermented.
