The ancient and unchanged beauty of Sicily is reflected in the architecture of Baglio Spano’. BAGLIO SPANO’ dates back to XVIII century when it was used as a summer residence by the noble family Montalto-Spanò. It is situated amidst 300.000 square meters of vineyards only 2 km from the seaside. An old farm road runs directly to Baglio Spanò and reaches its main entrance with the preserved ancient door.
A courtyard separates the farmhouse from its guest rooms which were once used to store the grapes and produce wine from the neighboring vineyards. The building has two floors. On the ground floor you can find the breakfast room/dining room, which is in the restructured wine cellar. Here you will taste and enjoy typical Sicilian dishes prepared by our chef. The guest-rooms are situated on the second floor where you can also find a wide, quiet sitting room available as both a library and TV room. The building is entirely surrounded by citrus trees which release their delicate perfumes in the peaceful spring evenings.
On the first floor, a wide liberty-style dining room is today available as library and TV room for our guests. From the sofa you will enjoy the stunning views of the orange grove and the vineyard, together with the color of the seaside which is just some hundreds meters away from the house. The bedrooms are positioned, as for the typical Sicilian architectural style, around the library, are furnished with beautiful furniture which dates back to the end of XIX century, now perfectly restored and are characterized by magnificent hand made decorated floors. Each room gets its name from the Sicilian vintage: “Grillo”, “Inzolia”, “Grecanico” are in fact the main species of wine, utilized for the Marsala production, famous throughout the world. The rooms have air conditioning
Thanks to the 360° exposure of the courtyards, Baglio Spano’ guests will always be able to enjoy both the pleasant warmth of the sun and the peaceful freshness of the air; on the front side “The Pinnata” patio welcomes you with a roof made of terracotta tiles and comfortable deck chairs. From the breakfast room, you can step out and rest idly in the orange grove, from where you can enjoy the colors and perfumes of the Sicilian tradition.
In the ancient wine cellar, where you can still find the original tools and barrels used for Marsala wine production, you will be served your breakfast featuring local products (American breakfast available upon request).
