Gilbert Cellars is where tradition meets innovation, where home meets exploration, where our past meets our future, where our mountains meet our valley.  In the wine that is created under these contrasting and fascinating circumstances are the spirited & genuine moments shared with people you love.

Gilbert Cellars produces world-class wines from our vineyards near Mattawa and Wiley City, Washington.  The Gilbert family began farming in the fertile Yakima Valley in 1897 and our tree-fruit company, Gilbert Orchards, is a prominent grower, packer, and shipper in Yakima today.  Our commitment to the sustainability of agricultural land in Central Washington now includes a passion for producing delicious wine.

The family’s winery is nestled in the middle of orchards on family land in the Ahtanum Valley west of Yakima. There is a wonderful view of the orchards and hills to the south. The building was originally a shop used for orchard operations. Temperature and humidity control has been added for the barrel room and jacketed stainless steel tanks have been installed in the production room.

950 cases produced
74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 8% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc
The follow up to our very successful 2004 Claret is another wonderful example of the success of Bordeaux varieties on the Wahluke Slope. A bouquet of herbs and smooth palette of dark fruits highlight this moderately tannic but very approachable and drinkable red blend.

2006 Chardonnay

87 Points From Robert Parker!!
225 cases produced
100% Chardonnay
This Chardonnay from the Gilbert Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope has a delightful balance of fruit, oak, and acidity that make it a refreshing, medium-bodied wine. It was aged for 11 months in 100% French Oak, of which only 20% was new, allowing for a clean, bright expression of fruit aromatics as well as a rich, smooth mid-palate.

2005 Syrah
Released October 2007
260 cases produced
100% Syrah
This hedonistic Syrah delivers an aroma of wild violets and crème de cacao that lead into a plush medley of dark fruits and an enduring finish of French vanilla and roasted coffee.

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon
Released November 2007
312 cases produced
92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah
This juicy, decadent Cabernet Sauvignon offers an aroma of savory dried fruit and crushed herbs that leads into supple, sweet tannins accompanied by unbridled flavors of blackberry jam, fresh cedar, pipe tobacco, and black licorice.

2005 Malbec
Released April 2008
75 cases produced
100% Malbec
This Malbec was aged for 22 months in 33% new oak, offering a full-bodied yet balanced wine that showcases the great potential for this variety in Washington State. It opens with aromas of dark Turkish tobacco, fresh-cut cedar, vanilla bean and fresh alpine berries. The lively palate glides over the tongue with juicy, spicy tannins and pervasive glycerin texture that lingers and tingles long after the last sip. It offers complexity in its aromatics and texture while providing a great accompaniment to a wide variety of cuisines. While it can be enjoyed immediately, it will likely age beautifully for 3-7 years.

This blend of Ahtanum Valley grapes frozen on the vine from the 2005 and 2006 vintages offers vibrant strawberry and passion fruit aromas that harmonize with tingling grapefruit and sweet pear on the palate.
