Nestled on 400 acres in the heart of California’s wine country, Safari West is home for over 400 exotic mammals and birds. Not a zoo, not a drive-through park, it’s a wildlife preserve where the whole family can experience some of nature’s most beautiful animals in a natural habitat.

What happens at Safari West?
Safari West serves two important functions: first and foremost, we are a wildlife preserve, with several important ongoing projects such the propagation of endangered species. Safari West is the home of zebras, giraffes, cheetahs and many more exotic creatures. Under the directorship of Nancy Lang, Safari West is breeding several endangered bird species.

Come through our gate and be transported into an exotic, new world. A captivating tapestry of raw sounds and earthy smells; a magic place with the sights and sounds of the Serengeti where the air is filled with melodious chirps from the aviary, squawking calls from gregarious parrots, and a occasional lemur screech. An African style oasis where guests experience a rare sense of freedom and gain renewed inspiration.

Enjoy all the creature comforts when you spend the night in one of our luxury tents—”It’s like having a tent over your room!” Pale-green canvas walls enclose plush beds, hot showers and rustic but elegant trappings. There are polished wood floors, gleaming copper basins in the private bathrooms and one-of-a kind hand hewn furniture.

And should you wish, you can enjoy a soothing Swedish massage with pressure point therapy in the serenity of your own luxury tent.

Tents are imported from Africa and are built on high wooden platforms with spacious decks where guests can take in the view of grazing giraffes or enjoy the serenity of the private lake.  It’s the height of luxury. Choose from one king size bed, king size bed with double size bunk beds, or two double beds. Ensuite bathroom with shower and outdoor sitting area. If canvas isn’t your style, try our charming cottage. Suitable for up to eight guests, the two-bedroom cottage is equipped with a king bed, a double bunk bed and a queen futon. Private bathroom, kitchenette (mini-fridge, sink, microwave and coffeemaker) and outdoor sitting area are all part of this spacious dwelling.
