When you visit Nine Gables we do our very best to make your experience a pleasant one. Consider yourself a member of the Nine Gables extended family. Often times, you’ll be greeted by one or more of the family members as well as the family dogs. Hannah is a Weimaraner and her pup (all 100 pounds) is a Weimaraner-Labrador mix. The dogs will greet you with either a bark or a kiss, depending on their mood.
Nine Gables Vineyard and Winery is a family owned and operated winery, which began in 1998. The name comes from the nine gables on the house built in 1992 by Jerry and Pam Notestine. The Notestines have owned the Nine Gables property for almost twenty years, but have been crafting wines since 1978. Today, Jerry attends to the vineyards; Pam operates the tasting room; and with Jerry’s help, their son – Ryan – handles the day to day wine operations.
By intent Nine Gables is not a large winery and the Notestines have no aspiration of producing mass quantity wines. Nine Gables Vineyard and Winery is dedicated to making quality wines at reasonable prices commensurate to the wines produced. Nine Gables Vineyard and Winery is committed to making wines in small batch fermentations with a hands-on, handcrafted approach. Better flavors come from fermenting the gapes in small batches and hand-punching them many times a day for maximum extraction of flavors, colors and aromas. The wine is then stored for 18 months in Oak barrels. Stainless steel tanks at Nine Gables are used mostly for blending and storing wines.
Good wines start with good grapes. While Nine Gables Vineyard and Winery does not grow all of the grapes used in its wines, they strive to buy only the highest quality of grapes from growers who share their commitment to exceptional wine. The best wines can only be produced when both grower and vintner share a strong commitment to tried and true methods of growing grapes, such as deficit irrigation, or dry farming, proper sizing of fruit set, leaf removal, and other methods of cultivation which achieve the highest quality grapes and wines.
